May Review and June Goals

We’ve been in our house for over a month now and fall in love with it more and more every day. We’ve been unpacking, working in the yard, and getting our lives organized. I had my first photo shoot of the year this past month which is always exciting. We went camping over Memorial Day and the weather was amazing. All-in-all it was a great month!

Let’s see how I actually did on the goals I set for myself!

 May Review

 Home Life:

  • Clean the kitchen every night before bed. SUCCESS/FAIL We were doing really well with this goal until Memorial Day came. I’m slowly getting back in to a rhythm and this will be a goal that carries over to next month. It’s amazing to wake up in the morning and have a clean house to start your day 🙂
  • Paint the china cabinet. FAIL I think I’m actually going to hold off on doing this project as I still need to narrow down the collectibles that are stored in here so that I can actually see what I have! This needs to be a multiple step goal.
  • Plant a garden. SUCCESS We planted peas, carrots and radishes. I also have tomatoes and green pepper growing in pots. It isn’t a full garden like I had envisioned, but I think it’s a place to start for this year. The only thing I still need to get in the ground is asparagus.
  • Clean out front yard flower beds and add mulch. SUCCESS/FAIL This has become a bigger undertaking than I originally thought. I’ve made some progress, but still have a long way to go. We are getting wood chips from my dad so that’s going to be a huge savings in money that I was going to spend on mulch. I think this is going to be a season long goal lol.
  • Design our deck area with our patio set, white lights and planter boxes on the fence. SUCCESS This area has turned out amazing 🙂 I’m still adding things, need to tweak the way the lights are and add some planter boxes, but we now have a beautiful patio set, a place to grill and our chiminea finally has a home.

Business:

  • Have secret project design executed. FAIL This project is going to be revisited in the fall. I just haven’t had the time to dedicate to making this project come to life.
  • Get my office set up. SUCCESS I’m considering this a success because as of last night I can actually sit at my desk and work. I still have a long way to go to getting it completely set up and functioning, but I can work!
  • Create multiple blog posts for recipes and craft projects so I have a bank to work with. FAIL Between working and getting our house unpacked and organized I haven’t had much free time to work on this project. I have a list of things ready to go once I have the time to complete them.
  • Blog twice a week. FAIL I’ve been able to keep up with one post a week and think that for right now, that might be all I can manage. As things get more settled I’m hoping to be able to get this back up to twice a week.
  • Get products ready to place back in Studio 213. SUCCESS Everything is set up and within a week, note cards were already selling J I’m even going to be the featured artist in June!
  • Schedule a meeting with Bobby. FAIL This is something I truly want to do and still have not had the time to actually go and meet with Bobby. I’ll be adding it to the list again for next month.
  • Prepare for newborn sessions next month. SUCCESS I’ve been reading Natural Newborn Baby Photography by Robin Long and am learning so much. I’m still incredibly nervous, but excited to work with my new clients!

 Personal/Health:

  • Do kickboxing twice a week for 30 minutes FAIL I can’t even say this was a partial success…I do have two You Tube videos that I love for this kind of workout and will be adding this to next months goals again.
  • Read every day. Finish Love the Home You Have. Read Power of Now SUCCESS/FAIL I finished Love the Home You Have. AMAZING. I’ll be doing a review of that book next month. I’ve been reading every day. I failed to start the Power of Now. I’m working on finishing Living Well Spending Less right now and then will be starting Power of Now.
  • Create a prayer/gratitude board FAIL This is actually on my mile long list of projects I want to complete. I will be adding this to my goals for next month as well. I think it’s so important to have a daily reminder of gratitude and the things or people that we want to pray for.
  • Have a reading done FAIL I’m not sure when I will have this done. I would say this is probably going to just be added to the list for the year.
  • Spend 30 minutes practicing Spanish FAIL I was doing so good on practicing Spanish with my Duolingo App before we moved. It’s another one of the things that took a backseat to unpacking. I will be trying to set aside time each week to continue working on this.
  • Walk at least 30 minutes with Aayla three times a week FAIL We haven’t been walking at all at our new house. We’ve gone on the trail twice in the month we’ve lived here. I can say though that she is getting lots of exercise in her new backyard chasing birds and just spending lots of outside time with us. She also just spent a weekend swimming. That counts right?

Wow. Is anyone else seeing RED? I think the thing I learned most about this last month and in going through this process is that I need to make smaller lists of goals and really think about the things I want to accomplish. I could easily keep blaming all the fails on the new house, but in reality its how I manage my time that needs to change.

June Goals

 Home Life:

  • Clean the kitchen every night before bed. I desperately want to get back in the habit of this. I think it truly affects my day when the house is a mess.
  • Clean out front yard flower beds and add wood chips. I should narrow this down. I have 5 areas in the front of our house that need to be weeded and have chips added. My goal is to have three of these areas done.
  • Clean out and organize china cabinet. This is the first step in being able to paint the cabinet. Here’s what it looks like now. FULL.

  • Organize cookbook bookcase. I’m hoping to use this area for cookbooks and extra dishes. Right now it’s become a catch-all.

Business:

  • Get my office set up. Hang samples, organize desk drawers, hang blog planner and project list, get wall filing display for folders, hook up printer.
  • Create 5 blog posts for recipes, craft projects or home updates so I have a bank to work with. I’m giving myself a goal of 5 so that I have a place to start.
  • Blog once a week. This is a reminder for me to make sure I’m at least hitting one a week.
  • Get products and slide show ready for Art on the Town. I’m going to be the featured artist for the June Art on the Town and want to have new items to bring in just for the event.
  • Schedule a meeting with Bobby. This project is something I’ve wanted to do for almost a year now. First step is having the meeting.
  • Create a portfolio of past sessions on the business page of this blog. I have the same images as one of my year in review posts but have not taken the time to upload my favorites from years past so that the images aren’t the same.

 Personal/Health:

  • Do kickboxing twice a week for 30 minutes I’m adding this back on and will be using the two videos I have for my workouts.
  • Read every day. Read Power of Now and Eat That Frog!: 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time If I read every day, I shouldn’t have any problems finishing both of these books this next month.
  • Create a prayer/gratitude board I have all the boards I need to actually create this project so I just need to set aside some time to complete it.
  • Walk with Aayla three times a week If you only understood how simple this goal should actually be. We have a paved walking trail ON THE OTHER SIDE OF OUR FENCE! We even have our own gate to get to it. This will be something that I’m going to make a priority this month.
  • Go to bed by 9:30 every night. That means lights off and phone down. I seem to have no problem going to lay down around 9, but then I sit on Pinterest or Facebook until 11 or later. If I can achieve this goal, my hope is that I will be able to start waking up earlier so I can get things done at home before I leave for work

Well there you have it . . . my list of goals for the month of June. I’m really feeling good about this month. I’m going to take this one step further and print out these goals so I can put them up somewhere in the house where I will see them every day.

I hope everyone is having a great week 🙂

Until next time.

Much love,

Liz
